OnePlus is giving its next flagship a major camera upgrade. The OnePlus 16 is confirmed to feature a 200MP main camera, along with a 50MP telephoto, a 50MP ultrawide camera, and a 50MP autofocus selfie camera.
The new camera setup is one of the biggest changes coming to the OnePlus 16, especially for users who want more detail and flexibility when shooting photos.
A 200MP Camera Takes Center Stage
The biggest change is the main camera. OnePlus has confirmed a 200MP sensor with a large 1/1.4-inch sensor size and an f/1.6 aperture.
The higher resolution is not simply about producing enormous 200MP files. A sensor like this can also combine pixels to produce lower-resolution images while retaining useful detail. The larger sensor and wide aperture could also help the phone capture more light, although real-world image quality will depend on OnePlus’ processing and the final hardware.
For users, the more interesting question is how the camera performs in everyday situations such as night photography, portraits and moving subjects.

50MP Telephoto and Ultrawide Cameras
The OnePlus 16 will also have two 50MP rear cameras.
The telephoto camera offers 3x optical zoom, while the ultrawide camera provides a 116-degree field of view. This gives the phone different focal lengths for subjects ranging from distant objects to landscapes and large groups.
OnePlus is also highlighting its newer LUMO imaging system, which is designed to improve areas such as color, light capture and image detail.
The Selfie Camera Gets a Big Upgrade
The front camera is also receiving an upgrade. The OnePlus 16 will use a 50MP selfie camera with autofocus.
Autofocus can be particularly useful for selfies, group photos and video calls because the camera can adjust focus rather than relying on a fixed focus point. The higher-resolution sensor also gives OnePlus more room to process and crop images.
New Camera Modes Could Be Just as Important
The hardware is only part of the story. OnePlus has also introduced new photography modes for the OnePlus 16, including Master Mode, High-Pixel Mode and a 65:24 Widescreen Mode.
These modes suggest that OnePlus is trying to give users more control over how photos look rather than focusing only on megapixel numbers.
The 65:24 mode, in particular, is designed for an unusually wide cinematic-style frame, while High-Pixel Mode is aimed at extracting more detail from the main camera.
What This Means for OnePlus 16 Buyers
The OnePlus 16 camera system looks substantially different from the previous generation on paper. The move to a 200MP main sensor, combined with three 50MP cameras and updated image processing, gives the phone a more photography-focused specification sheet.
However, megapixels alone do not determine camera quality. Reviewers will need to test image processing, autofocus, stabilization and low-light performance on retail units to assess the overall camera experience.
OnePlus confirmed the camera hardware ahead of the China launch, but the company has not fully confirmed wider availability or final pricing.
For now, the camera upgrade makes the OnePlus 16 one of the more interesting upcoming flagship phones to watch, particularly for users who felt the previous generation needed a stronger photography system.
