Honor is taking smartphone photography in an unusual direction with two new external telephoto accessories for the Magic 9 Pro Max. The company has introduced the G500 and G200 teleconverters, giving users a way to extend the phone’s camera reach far beyond its built-in telephoto lens.
The bigger surprise is the G500. It provides a claimed 500mm equivalent focal length, extending the phone’s native 85mm telephoto capability by about 5.88 times. That makes the accessory particularly interesting for subjects that are normally difficult to capture from a distance, including wildlife, sports and concert scenes.
Two Teleconverters, Two Different Uses
Honor’s G500 is designed for maximum reach. Its large size makes it less of an everyday accessory, but that trade-off could make sense for photographers who want to capture distant subjects without relying entirely on digital zoom.
The smaller G200 takes a different approach. It offers a 200mm equivalent focal length while measuring around 81mm and weighing approximately 88 grams. That compact design makes it considerably easier to carry and could be more practical for portraits, travel photography and everyday telephoto shots.
Both accessories are part of Honor’s Photography Master Kit and are sold separately from the phone.
The Magic 9 Pro Max Is Built for Photography
The accessories are designed to complement the Magic 9 Pro Max’s camera hardware. The phone features a dual-200MP imaging system, including a large main sensor and a dedicated telephoto camera. Honor is also working with ARRI on the phone’s imaging experience.
The combination of a high-resolution camera system and external optical accessories gives the Magic 9 Pro Max a distinctly camera-focused approach. Honor has also shown sample images demonstrating the teleconverter’s use for distant subjects and night scenes.
For now, the biggest question is real-world image quality. A 500mm specification sounds impressive, but independent testing will ultimately show how much detail and clarity the G500 can actually deliver.
