Xiaomi 18 Pro Gets Dual 200MP Cameras: What’s New?

Xiaomi has officially launched the Xiaomi 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max in China, and the biggest camera upgrade is easy to spot: both phones now use 200MP main and 200MP periscope telephoto cameras. The two models also share the same Leica-branded triple-camera setup, making the Pro Max less of a camera-only upgrade over the standard Pro.

Two 200MP Cameras, Not Just One

The main camera uses a 200MP 1/1.28-inch LOFIC sensor with a 23mm-equivalent focal length, f/1.67 aperture and optical stabilization. LOFIC technology is designed to help the sensor handle bright highlights and difficult lighting more effectively.

The second 200MP camera is a periscope telephoto with a 1/1.56-inch sensor, 75mm-equivalent focal length, f/2.4 aperture and OIS. It provides about 3.2x optical zoom, while also supporting close-up photography.

That matters because users don’t have to rely entirely on digital zoom when photographing distant subjects. The larger telephoto sensor also gives Xiaomi considerably more camera hardware to work with than a typical smartphone zoom camera.

The 50MP Camera That Still Matters

The third rear camera is a 50MP ultrawide with a 17mm-equivalent lens. Unlike the main and telephoto cameras, this part of the system is not receiving the same major resolution jump as the other two cameras.

For everyday photography, that means the biggest improvements should be noticeable when shooting with the main camera or zooming into distant subjects.

What About Low-Light Photos?

The 200MP number alone doesn’t guarantee better pictures. Sensor size, aperture, stabilization and image processing all matter.

Xiaomi’s main camera combines its large sensor with an f/1.67 aperture, OIS and Leica’s imaging approach. The company also introduced Legendary Moment, an imaging system that combines Leica color science with device and cloud-based processing.

So the real question for buyers isn’t simply “Is 200MP better?” It’s whether Xiaomi’s processing can turn all that additional camera data into cleaner photos in difficult lighting.

Both Phones Get the Same Camera System

One useful detail for buyers: the Xiaomi 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max have the same rear camera hardware. The major differences are elsewhere, including display size and processor. The Pro has a 6.4-inch display, while the Pro Max increases that to 6.9 inches.

Xiaomi has also confirmed that the 18 Pro series will reach global markets later this year, although the company says the US is excluded from the global rollout. Chinese pricing starts at CNY 5,999 for the 18 Pro and CNY 6,999 for the Pro Max.

For photography fans, the key upgrade is clear: Xiaomi isn’t putting 200MP on just the main camera. It is giving both the main and telephoto cameras the high-resolution treatment, which could make the 18 Pro series particularly interesting for people who frequently shoot portraits, distant subjects and detailed scenes.
